Could You Have a Forgotten Pension?
Monday 26 October 2026 is National Pension Tracing Day, an opportunity to track down pension savings you may have forgotten about from previous jobs.
Research suggests that there are around 3 million lost or forgotten pension pots across the UK, worth more than £18.7 billion.
It's easy to lose track of a pension, particularly if you've changed jobs several times, moved house or lost contact with a previous employer. However, even a pension from a job you held many years ago could make a difference to your retirement income.

How can you find a lost pension?
If you think you might have a pension you've forgotten about, there are a few simple steps you can take:
- Think about previous jobs – Make a list of employers you've worked for and check any old payslips, letters or pension statements.
- Contact your previous employer – They may be able to tell you which pension provider they used.
- Use the Government's free Pension Tracing Service – This can help you find contact details for pension schemes linked to previous employers.
- Check your pension details – Once you've located a pension, contact the provider to confirm your savings and make sure your personal details are up to date.
The Government's Pension Tracing Service is completely free to use, although it won't tell you whether you have a pension or how much it is worth.
