If you haven't used your heating for a while, it's a good idea to switch it on and make sure everything is working as it should.
If you notice a problem with your heating or hot water, please report it to us as soon as possible rather than waiting until the weather gets colder.
As we spend more time indoors, good ventilation becomes increasingly important. Using extractor fans (if you have them) when cooking or bathing, opening windows for short periods and keeping air vents clear can all help reduce condensation and keep your home healthier.
While we also appreciate that it isn't always possible, try to avoid drying clothes directly on radiators where you can, as this can increase moisture in the air.
Take a quick look around your windows and external doors for any obvious draughts, damage or problems with seals. If you spot an issue that needs attention, report it to us so we can investigate. This may also help keep your home secure during darker months.
This applies year-round.
Your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are there to help keep you and your household safe. Test them regularly and make sure they aren't covered or obstructed.
If you have any concerns about your alarms, please contact us.
Autumn can bring leaves, wind and wet weather, so please help keep communal paths, entrances and shared areas clear and safe.
If you spot a maintenance issue in a communal area, such as a blocked drain or trip hazard, please let us know.
Close lighting repairs should be reported directly to City Lighting on 0800 595 595.
Autumn and winter can be particularly challenging for some people in our communities. If you have an elderly or vulnerable neighbour, a friendly chat or a quick check-in can make a real difference, particularly during periods of colder or unsettled weather.
With cooler weather comes an increased risk of condensation. If you notice moisture building up on windows or walls, wipe it away and try to keep rooms warm and well ventilated. Small steps such as opening windows after showering or cooking can help reduce moisture in the air and prevent damp and mould from developing.
Autumn is also a great opportunity to have a quick tidy-up around your home. Keeping radiators and vents clear of furniture and belongings helps air circulate and can make it easier for your heating to warm your home effectively. It’s also worth checking cupboards and storage areas for anything that could cause a problem, particularly around heating appliances.
